Earlier this year I replaced my Poplite Popcorn popper coffee roaster with a Fresh Roast SR540 Coffee roaster and started using it to roast coffee and I was initially not very pleased with the roaster because the beans did not move very well and roasted unevenly. In addition the temperature was not hot enough to get to French or Italian roast. I don’t normally roast that dark but at times I have a desire for darker coffee and I could not get there. I found that they provide an extension tube for this roaster as well as the SR800 and this extension tube was advertised to increase bean movement and increased temperature so I spent the $75.00 for a glass tube with silicone rings and hoped it would work. I must say I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked, I could now roast a full cup of beans and they moved Very well and I am able to get the temperature way above what I need depending on the ambient temperature but even at below 30 Degrees outside I can roast as dark as I want to and when its 90 degrees F outside it will reach temperatures over 800 Degrees F which is way to hot. I truly believe that they recognized a design flaw in their roaster and this was the fix for the bad design. I am very happy with it however.
